Drawings shall be done under the direct supervision of a professional engineer licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, who signs and seals the drawing and assumes professional responsibility for the design. For project specific applications, special design drawings based on VDOT standards shall include all details, notes, dimensions, and quantities necessary to completely construct the item. Inserting the Standard Drawings into VDOT, locality, or private development plan assemblies, or modifying the Standard Drawings in any way, is not permitted. Plan assemblies using the Road & Bridge Standards shall reference each standard used. VDOT’s policy is to offer the Standard Drawings in a secure electronic format and each Standard is available on this website.
